The summer transfer window has not been closed for less than a month, but Barcelona seems to be able to make a big move in January.
According to the “Sport” report, the Catalan giants expressed interest in signing Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling in the winter transfer window. It is said that this player is willing to move to Camp Nou.
Sterling is his seventh season with Manchester City. He joined from Liverpool in the summer of 2015. After a slow start, the 26-year-old has grown into a key member of Guardiola’s successful team established at the Etihad Stadium.
However, since the latter part of last season, Sterling’s status in the team has been declining. The same situation is common this season. The England international has only started one of Cityzens’ five games in all competitions.
In fact, Guardiola prefers the left-wing new signing Jack Greerish, while Riyadh Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus and others seem to surpass Sterling in pecking order. This makes the British seek an exit, and Barcelona is becoming a potential destination.
The Catalans were also linked to the transfer of the former Liverpool winger in the summer, and technical director Matteu Alemani went to England for talks. A potential swap involving one of Antoine Griezmann, Osman Dembele, or Sergi Roberto is also under discussion. Loan measures were also discussed, but nothing came true.
However, despite facing financial difficulties, Barcelona still maintains interest in Sterling, and now the player himself is open to withdrawing and ready to move to the Nou Camp. Due to his difficulties in Manchester, a January transfer is likely to occur.
